Community Organizations

There are so many wonderful community groups and nonprofits in Colorado that get cancer survivors together for social outings, outdoor adventure, fitness and other interests.

Here is a list of some of my favorites:

Outdoor Adventure

Live By Living

Live By Living provides transformative outdoor experiences for cancer survivors and their caregivers. Our day hikes, snowshoe outings, and cancer survivor retreats are structured to help you build up your strength and stamina, to find solace in the beauty of nature, and make new friends with people who understand what you’ve been through.

Epic Experience

Epic Experience empowers adult cancer survivors and thrivers to live beyond cancer through free week-long adventures in the Colorado Rockies. Adventure camps help cancer survivors to ski, paddle, and ride past those three words, “I have cancer.”

Support for Young Survivors (Age 19 - 39)

Young Survivors Support Group

Being diagnosed with cancer in your 20s and 30s is much different than being diagnosed in middle age or later. We focus on education, perspective, and support with an emphasis on the facets of your life that are interrupted by a cancer diagnosis at this age.  This group meets on the first Thursday of every month in Denver. If you would like more information or to be added to their e-mail distribution list, please contact Melissa Gilstrap at melissagilstrap@centura.org or 303-269-4348 or follow them on Facebook or Instagram.

Small Choices Foundation

One of the most difficult results of being hospitalized is the lack of control over everyday decisions, so our goal is to give them back a sense of power by giving them the ability to choose comfort items for themselves and their caregivers and the opportunity to connect with others, making the cancer journey a bit brighter.

Dear Jack Foundation

The Dear Jack Foundation provides impactful programming that directly benefits adolescents and young adults (age 18 - 39) diagnosed with cancer in order to improve quality of life and create positive health outcomes from treatment to survivorship for patients and their families.

Epic Experience

Epic Experience empowers adult cancer survivors and thrivers to live beyond cancer through free week-long adventures in the Colorado Rockies. Adventure camps help cancer survivors to ski, paddle, and ride past those three words, “I have cancer.”

First Descents

First Descents provides life-changing outdoor adventures or young adults (18-39) impacted by cancer.

Cactus Cancer Society

Cactus Cancer Society provides a safe virtual space where young adults (ages 18-45) facing cancer can connect, cope, and thrive with one another in an online community through creativity and expression. They offer a full spectrum of free, ground-breaking online wellness and support programs for young adults facing cancer.
